Partner Peter Halprin has been appointed to the Asia Chapter of the AIDA (Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances) Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society (ARIAS Asia) Panel of Arbitrators for insurance and reinsurance disputes. The ARIAS Asia Panel of Arbitrators comprises members who have demonstrated significant experience and expertise in resolving disputes arising from the insurance and reinsurance sector. The Panel includes 23 members from ten jurisdictions with Halprin being the only U.S. based arbitrator.
ARIAS Asia is a non-profit organization that promotes the use of arbitration and mediation for insurance and reinsurance disputes with a focus on Asia. It was established in Hong Kong in 2017 as ARIAS’s first chapter in Asia. ARIAS Asia appoints arbitrators and mediators where it is designated by parties as the appointing authority in their agreements. It also organizes events to train legal, insurance and reinsurance professionals as arbitrators and mediators and to enhance their knowledge and expertise in the relevant sectors.
Halprin acts as counsel for U.S. and foreign companies in domestic and international arbitrations, including both ad hoc (ARIAS, Bermuda Form, London) as well as institutional (AAA, ICC, ICDR, JAMS, LCIA) arbitration forums. He has served as both party-appointed and sole arbitrator, and, in addition to the ARIAS Asia Panel, is a Member of the AAA National Roster of Arbitrators, the AIADR’s Presidential Panel of Arbitrators, the CPR Institute’s Distinguished Panels of Neutrals (including the Insurance-Policyholder Coverage Panel), and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre’s Reserve Panel of Arbitrators. Halprin is a frequent speaker and author on emerging issues and trends in insurance arbitration, and was the co-author of the “ARIAS-US Panel Rules for the Resolution of Insurance and Contract Disputes.”
