International Issues

Our lawyers have handled, or currently handle, issues involving claims and losses across the world, including losses arising in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, Mexico, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia. We have substantial experience with property and business interruption losses, errors and omissions, and liability matters arising outside the United States. We also have substantial experience with political risk insurance.

We have been engaged to serve as counsel in arbitrations in Bermuda, Canada, France, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, including non-administered ARIAS and Bermuda Form arbitrations and arbitrations administered by the ICC International Court of Arbitration (ICC), the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), JAMS, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC).

Our lawyers have been appointed to serve as both sole and party-appointed arbitrators for institutions such as the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and the ICC. We also have been retained as experts to offer opinions on international insurance issues.

Our lawyers also have negotiated and litigated against underwriters at Lloyd’s, London, and against many of the world’s largest foreign insurers, working through the nuances of differences in cultural and business approaches, choice of law provisions, international discovery protocols and treaties, and the historical context of the development of standardized insurance policy forms and the development of different, but intertwined, international insurance and reinsurance markets.

We have engaged in arbitrations in Bermuda, Canada, and the London Court of International Arbitration.
