Nathan M. Davis has extensive experience in complex and high-profile litigation in state and federal courts nationwide, successfully representing clients from notable personalities in the entertainment industry to Fortune 500 companies.  His practice focuses on representing insureds in all stages of a dispute.  Nathan is an experienced appellate attorney, representing clients before the California, Hawai‘i, and Virginia Supreme Courts and several intermediate federal and state appellate courts. A seasoned mediator, Nathan also is adept at advising clients with respect to settlement considerations and options available to resolve disputes.  Attendant to his years of high-profile litigation, Nathan is attuned to crisis and brand management, and protecting his clients’ positions in the media and respective industries permeates his practice.

Nathan has been instrumental in recovering hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of the firm’s clients.  His practice involves all aspects of insurance for long-tail environmental liability insurance claims, derivative litigation and government enforcement actions, management liability, defamation insurance, liability insurance for claims of sexual misconduct, property damage and business losses, supply chain interruptions, policyholder-broker disputes, event cancellation coverage, and other issues that insureds face anywhere in the world—from Argentina to Thailand.  Among his current and former clients are international food companies, government defense contractors, international retail brands, executives of one of America’s largest banks, entertainment companies and production studios, technology manufacturers and service providers, global hospitality chains, healthcare companies, nonprofit organizations like boarding schools and trusts, high-profile individuals, and numerous other companies of all sizes.

From the #MeToo movement to the COVID-19 pandemic to one of the largest insurance-funded settlements of shareholder derivative litigation in U.S. History, when companies and individuals face their greatest—even existential—problems, Nathan is one of the firm’s biggest assets.

Nathan is an editor of the recent editions of the New Appleman Sports and Entertainment Insurance Law & Practice Guide (LexisNexis eds. 2018, 2020, 2022), a treatise on the insurance issues that arise in the sports and entertainment industries.

Prior to his legal career, Nathan worked in the arts and entertainment industries at the Whitney Museum of American Art and at the Apollo Theater in New York City, and in the press offices of Sotheby’s auction houses in Madrid and Paris.  In law school, Nathan was Senior Notes Editor for the Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal, and the law faculty presented him with the Benjamin N. Cardozo Writing Award for exceptional written achievement.  Also while in law school, Nathan spent a year as a judicial extern for the Honorable Joan M. Azrack in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.  In 2013, the State Bar of California presented Nathan with the Wiley W. Manuel Certificate for dedication to pro bono representation.  Nathan is recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyer (2023) and was named a Rising Star from 2015 to 2022.
