International Student Athletes Denied Entry in the U.S. – USA Today Features Lawsuit Against U.S. Government

Feb. 24, 2021

USA Today features the legal effort of 15 international athletes who are supposed to be participating in sports either at UCLA or Loyola Marymount University in an ongoing lawsuit to rejoin their teams after a ruling denied their petition for an injunction to enter the country.  This comes after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security barred their entry as part of the agency’s evolving set of policies to curtail immigration during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The agency has warned that any entry could bring about deportation and removal proceedings.

Though the athletes were approved for their student visas, their certification forms were deferred, leaving them in a lurch.  Pasich LLP is representing the students on a pro bono basis.

A federal judge will decide whether or not to dismiss the case.  If the case continues, so does the fight to get into America.
