How Food Processors Can Plan and Prepare for Natural Disaster-Induced Business Interruptions – Michael Gehrt Interviewed on Food For Thought Podcast

Sep. 20, 2021

From hurricanes to floods, fires and natural disasters – all can have a significant impact on the food and beverage supply chain. As a guest on Food Processing’s Food For Thought podcast, Partner Michael Gehrt discussed insurance coverage for natural disasters and how to mitigate the risks associated with operating a business in the event of a disaster.

“Mitigating against natural disasters certainly isn't easy, particularly given the scope and increased prevalence of them recently,” Gehrt said. “However, there are loss prevention measures that insureds in the food supply chain or in the food industry can take when a natural disaster is approaching…and those kinds of efforts are typically covered under most insurance policies.”

Gehrt also addressed the importance of proving and calculating business interruption claims. He advised insureds to review their business coverage insurance given the flurry of recent natural disasters and the substantial losses that are presented.

Food Processing's Food For Thought podcast examines issues affecting food and beverage processors. Listen to Gehrt’s full interview here.
