Pipeline Ransomware Attack Could Raise Cyber Insurance Bar – Law360 Turns to Partner Peter A. Halprin

The ransomware attack on Colonial Pipeline Co., the latest high-profile example of a growing threat, has renewed interest in cyber insurance policies and caught the attention of regulators.

Pasich LLP Partner, Peter A. Halprin, told Law360 that regulators like New York's Department of Financial Services are putting "the onus on companies to prioritize cyber security." The Department's enforcement actions suggest that companies "cannot take an ostrich 'head-in-the-sand' approach," Halprin explained. "In other words, the cardinal sin is discovering vulnerabilities and then ignoring them.”
