Facebook’s Blackout Highlights Cyber Insurance Issues – Law360 Turns to Peter Halprin
On October 4, 2021, Facebook and other of its social networks suffered a six-hour blackout that could have insurance implications given the resulting losses suffered by businesses that rely on its platforms and shareholders. In an interview with Law360, Partner Peter Halprin explained that if companies that rely on Facebook's technology to operate sue the social network, Facebook may be able to tap into third-party cyber liability coverage.
“That may involve [the insurer] providing [a] defense to Facebook, paying for counsel to defend Facebook in these suits,” Halprin said.
