Biometric privacy statutes protect consumers against the unauthorized collection, use, and disclosure of their biometric data, but can impose stiff penalties on businesses for violations.  In their article for New York Law Journal, Partner Peter Halprin and Senior Managing Associate Tae Andrews examine an action filed against Amazon under New York City’s recently implemented biometric-data statute and the potential for massive damage awards as well as the types of insurance coverage that can protect companies facing similar lawsuits.
